Dublin is a city famous for its warm welcome and hospitality. It had been almost 10 years since my last visit, and unfortunately the city no longer felt so inviting to me. Walking the streets felt edgy and more dangerous in 2023. The day before I shot this video, I spent some time talking to Mohammed. He was a Syrian refugee who I came across him camped in a tent on the pavement in the city. He had all of his worldly belongings with him, camped out in the cold November weather, and was waiting patiently for a permit to begin work. He struck me as an amiable and genuine man who spoke very good English. I thought he deserved a helping hand, so I withdrew €100 from the ATM and went on a market hunt to buy him warm clothes, toiletries and food. I visited only stalls and small local shops, seeing what help I could get to help him as much as possible.
