“Nationwide data on how prevalent surgeries are on intersex children do not exist. However, available data sources show that doctors continue to perform medically unnecessary cosmetic surgical procedures on children with atypical sex characteristics in the United States—often before they are one year of age. US government data compiled from several voluntaryreporting databases, for example, show that in 2014—the most recent year for which data are available—clitoral surgery was reported 70 times. By the way, Children’s hospitals are still doing medically unnecessary genital surgeries on intersex kid’s genitalia and reproductive organs. Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago doesn’t even hide it (end of first paragraph under 'Surgery' heading:) https://www.luriechildrens.org/enus/...

I'm pidgeon and I'm a nonbinary intersex person, activist, blogger, filmmaker and youtuber. I grew up believing I was the only person like meborn with sex characteristics such as chromosomes, reproductive organs, and or genitalia not easily categorized as either male or femalebut found out that there are indeed millions of intersex people around the world. In fact, according to the UN's latest statistics, intersex people may be as common as natural born redheads!

I want to live in a world where babies who are born intersex are no longer subjected to nonconsensual, medically unnecessary, genital destroying "cosmetic" surgeries. These surgeries are considered by many, including the UN, to be violations of our human rights.
