Follow
Project Past

The fight at Gettysburg’s brickyard on July 1st, 1863 is often overlooked or flat out unknown. You can say this small sliver of land on Coster Avenue is hidden in plain sight. This brief and desperate engagement was meant to buy time to allow Union troops to retreat through Gettysburg and to the high ground on and near Cemetery Hill. Nearly 800 Union and Confederate soldiers would become casualties in mere minutes of fighting. We will visit this small piece of ground and even follow 1 Union soldiers retreat through town until his last moments.
