The site was built in the 1880s by the "Házépító Tisztviselők Egyesület" to improve housing conditions in the middle of Budapest.

At first it was inhabited by officials (tisztviselők), then in the 1910s the officials were increasingly pushed out and welltodo families began to move here.

Some famous people lived and created here, such as Mihály Babits poet, writer, literary historian, translator, and Iván Szenes writer, lyricist, dramatist, composer.

Although the Tisztviselőtelep bears the traces of displacement and the forced conversion of old apartments after the Second World War, the multigenerational settlement families living here still preserve the memory of the past.
