High Moor Livery's Strangles Outbreak Story

Follow
Strangles Awareness Week

A raised temperature is commonly the first sign of Strangles and typically occurs 23 days before a horse starts shedding this nasty bacteria. That’s why it’s so important to have a thermometer, know our horse’s normal healthy temperature and regularly check for fever – especially if we go to events or bring new horses onto yards.

Spot fever, stop the spread!

Do you want your yard to be able to spot fever early and make temperature checking routine this Strangles Awareness Week (17 May)? Contact us for a pack to help your whole yard enjoy the #TempCheckChallenge!

High Moor Livery lost 4 ponies and there were devastating complications for others in an outbreak that took 7 months to resolve and yet, working alongside their vet, they managed to contain the disease to 27 of the 64 horses.
Temperature checking was a key part of their outbreak management and is now a routine part of their biosecurity. Hear more of their story each day during Strangles Awareness Week.
