The Drakensberg Mountains aka Dragon Mountains, form a dramatic natural border between Lesotho and South Africa. Three thousand meters high, they’re packed with a wealth of natural phenomenon including a 5kilometre long cliff face and the secondhighest waterfall in the world. The Drakensberg rises to more than 11,400 feet (3,475 meters) and extends roughly northeast to southwest for 700 miles (1,125 km) parallel to the southeastern coast of South Africa. Rock and cave art several thousands of years old has been found in the range. There are many game reserves and parks. In 2000 uKhahlamba/Drakensberg Park was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Drakensberg of Lesotho and KwaZuluNatal is snowcapped in winter. The range is more than 200 kilometers long and combines rugged peaks with verdant valleys and spectacular backdrops. Drakensberg mountains have some of the best hikes in South Africa.
