Goethe State Forest located in Levy County, Florida is a great place to hike and explore. I always enjoy this beautiful wilderness and always something to explore each visit. I wanted to make a short video with some scenes of the forest and even some of the history you may find a long the way. There are many layers of history throughout the forest to discover and learn about. It is a matter of just exploring the forest and letting the nature guide you in. There are many miles of muleuse trails, unmarked trails and off the beaten path places as well so just be safe and always keep track of your where you hike. It can be easy to get turned around out here. There are places for horseback riding, camping and hunting as well so be sure to check the hunt dates before hiking into certain areas. About Goethe State Forest: The Goethe State Forest land was purchased in 1992 from Mr. J.T. Goethe under the Florida Conservation and Recreation Lands program. The forest is managed and maintained by the Florida Forest Service. Goethe State Forest contains 19 different ecological communities, each with unique plants and animals. Mesic flatwoods, dome swamps, wet flatwoods, basin marsh, and sandhill are the primary community types. The forest also has two large flatwoods lakes and several seasonal creeks. The forest supports a variety of wildlife including: Sherman’s fox squirrel, Florida black bear, Whitetailed deer, Gopher tortoise, Gopher frog, Bald eagle, Redcockaded woodpecker, Wild turkey
