Surgical oncologist Alex Kim explains HIPEC surgery, a twostep procedure that treats certain cancers in the abdomen. Step one is the cytoreductive surgery that removes cancerous tumors. Step two is the application of hypothermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) to the belly cavity to eliminate the remaining cancerous cells.
