In this program, we take a look at one of the lesserknown but extremely influential empires of the Bronze Age, known as the Kingdom of the Mitanni. At one time the most powerful player in the ancient Near East, the Mitanni held considerable sway over northern Syria, northern Mesopotamia, southwestern Anatolia and even areas of Canaan and Palestine. They married their daughters to Egyptian pharaohs and kept the most powerful states of the time in check. They are the Hurrian Kingdom of the Mitanni, and if you want to understand the geopolitics of the mid to late Bronze Age Near East, you should get to know them.
