In this video we see Metro Trains Melbourne Hitachi EMU's at various locations around Melbourne. Recorded from 2012 onwards this compilation video depicts the Hitachi trains during their final years of service. Entering service in 1972 the Hitachi's were the first electric suburban train in Melbourne to feature heating, power operated doors and air suspension, and were the last to be delivered with opening windows (as they didn't feature air conditioning). 355 carriages were built by Martin & King from 1971 to 1981.

The Hitachi's were progressively withdrawn from 2002 onwards as modern Siemens and X'trapolis trains entered service, but growing patronage meant that seven sets were retained until they were finally withdrawn from service at the end of 2013. A farewell tour was held in April 2014, with the remaining sets stabled at Macaulay transferred to Newport Workshops in 2015.

This video not only shows the Hitachi's around the network, but also during their last days in revenue service on the South Morang (now Mernda) line in 2013, the farewell tour in 2014 and the transfers in 2015. The video contains most of my Hitachi clips, all of these clips have been uploaded before in other videos so none of the footage is new.
