We loved our stay in Hot Springs, NC! It was beautiful, relaxing and we didn't want to leave! The French Broad River flows through town as well as The Appalachian Trail. The Hot Springs Resort Campground was a great place to camp because many of the campsites have paths that lead right down to the river.
