The core principals of the economic system practiced in the world have not changed in several years. Our economy is designed to extract raw materials from nature, process them into goods and discard them. This linear system of exploration and exploitation, which rigs our society to buy into the future, is far from sustainable and results in negative environmental impacts.
Through a series of anecdotes and conceptual reviews, awardwinning sustainability designer and entrepreneur Dr. Leyla Acaroglu challenges the audience to think differently about global economics, from how we value things to how we perceive and evaluate growth — and explains how anyone can contribute to a future that works better than today.
Sustainability provocateur, designer, and sociologist, Dr. Leyla Acaroglu challenges people to think differently about how the world works. As an UNEP Champion of the Earth, she is internationally known for her creative approaches to addressing complex problems, as she activates positive social change through creative interventions and systems thinking. She is the founder of The UnSchool, an experimental knowledge lab for adults, the developer of the Disruptive Design Method, and most recently founded the CO Project Farm Brain Spa, in Tomar, Portugal. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
