To get rid of lumps it depends on what lump it is. If it is begin or cystic or non cancerous. 90% of the times these lumps are benign or non cancerous. If it is cystic many at times medications helps. Balancing hormones in the body helps cystic lumps. But if is a solid lump like the fibroadeooma, phyllodes tumor, if it is more than 3 cms, we have to remove the lumps otherwise there are medications to remove the lumps. Only surgical methods are available to remove these lumps if it is more than 3 cms. In phyllodes tumor however all this is we have to remove the lumps and consider the further observation and follow up of the patients because recurrence is very common with phyllodes tumor. If the lump is due to any infection, mastitis, abscess formation, then we do an I & D that is removal of the pus pocket or we can aspirate to remove the lumps without doing a surgery and giving them antibiotics helps them. So if it is a cancerous lump the whole treatment depends on the staging of the disease. early stage cancers we first we do surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy if required depending the studies that we do on the lump. If it is advanced stage we do chemotherapy and we reduce the size of lump and then we do surgery. if it is metastatic , chemotherapy is major options but when it is stage 4, if there is infected lump, the erosive or cauliflower like lesion then we do mastectomy for these patients.
