Here we discuss the essential concepts of distance, displacement, speed, and velocity. Distance is the total meters as an object move. Displacement only takes into account the starting and ending point of the motion, and is a vector quantity. A vector has magnitude and direction, while a scalar only contains magnitude information. Speed is is a vector, while velocity is a vector and contains speed information along with the direction of travel.
