First, the dominoes were knocked down, then the Gauss accelerator that uses magnets was activated. The electromagnetic switch was then turned on, and finally the air vortex cannon knocked down the target. The target says "switches," and that's today's topic.
Take a look at this model. It's a model of a threestory building with stairs. You can turn the whole building's lights on or off from any of the floors. You probably have seen switches like this somewhere. So why can you control the lights from both the first and second floors? It's a simple trick, and the secret lies in the wiring.
Let me explain using this model. There is a power outlet, a light bulb, and two switches. There are two wires connecting the two switches. The glowing wires show where electricity is running. Right now, electricity is running through the wires as shown to turn on the light bulb. If you turn one of the switches off, electricity stops flowing, and the light bulb turns off. But when you flip the other switch... Electricity runs through the other wire, and the light bulb turns on. By using two wires to connect the switches as shown here, you are able to turn on the light using either of the switches. This type of switch is called the threeway switch.
Here, we have another model. Between the threeway switch is another switch. The switch in the middle works like a railway switching point and changes the wire that electricity runs through. For example, by turning the switch in the middle, the linear wiring switches to cross wiring. Now, the light bulb that was turned off in the threeway switch is turned on. This is called a fourway switch. This way, you are able to turn on the lights no matter which floor you are on.
