Doctor, my relative is undergoing Chemotherapy for Lung Cancer. Could you please tell me how many rounds of chemotherapy do we need for lung cancer.

When a patient comes to a medical oncologist, we explain to them but the chemotherapy. The first thing is how many cycles of chemotherapy they require. It depends on the situation you are treating it to, like a patient with a curative intent, if you are giving with radiation or after surgery. I such patients the chemotherapy is done in 4 to 6 cycles, whereas in palliative setting or in advanced setting, the rounds of chemotherapy, we give as long as the patient tolerates or the patient develops a major side effect of chemotherapy. So the chemotherapy cycles and duration depends on the patient fitness, their intent or palliative intent? How fit is the patient the patient comorbidities. So based on all those things we decide on the number of cycles and chemotherapy . So it is basically individualized. So majorly or generally in a curative intent, we give 4 to 6 cycles of chemotherapy, whereas in palliative or advanced setting, or advanced lung therapy. We give as long as the patient responds or as long as the patient tolerates the chemotherapy.
