My guess was that it would survive 4 or 5 generations before any noticable loss in quality. I was wrong.

NB: The PCMF1 has a "Copy" function, which outputs a regenerated digital video signal from the input digital signal. This would yield a perfect copy every time, so if you wanted to make a copy of a PCMF1 recording for real, that would be the way to do it. This experiment is purely for curiosity!
