Modern art differs from art of the past. Art of the Ancient, Renaissance, Classical, Neoclassical and Impressionist periods attempted to bring meaning to the viewer. The works of artists like Pablo Picasso, Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo and Salvador Dali contained meaning within themselves.

Now, contemporary, postmodern art typified by artists like Andy Warhol, Jeff Koons and Damien Hirst focuses on shock value. It is largely barren.
