How much does a thruhike cost? There are a ton of different formulas out there to calculate the cost of a thruhike but what about a real life example? My name is Sauce and I’ve backpacked over 5,000 miles and in this video, I’m going to tell you EXACTLY what I spent on my CDT thruhike in 2022. I’ve broken up what I spent on my thruhike into four sections of trail (New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming and Idaho/Montana), and five categories (Resupply, Lodging, Food/Bev, Gear, Misc.). When you add all those categories together you get the total of how much my CDT thruhike cost in 2022.

I hope my transparency is helpful in planning your own hike one day and if you feel comfortable, please feel free to leave what you’ve spent on thruhikes in the comments. Hopefully, thruhike hopefuls can use them as a crowd sourced information base to figure out how much their thruhike might cost.
