India. Seen as the bastion of the Hindu faith, it is actually home to the 3rd largest Muslim population in the world. The introduction of Islam as a political power force in the subcontinent came through the efforts of two Muslim dynasties centred in modernday Afghanistan, the Ghaznavids and the Ghurids. Through the actions of their two respective greatest rulers, Mahmud of Ghazni and Muizz ulDin Ghuri, northern India was constantly exposed to raids and in time, the establishment of Muslim state.
