Hey Plant Lover, how you doing!!! Welcome back and thank you for tuning in. Let us talk about the topic today, How not to abuse the seedlings! I know that you know, how hard it is to get some seedlings started, prepare the bed, get the seeds, raise them, water frequently, give them all they need, and now it’s time to repot them, here 70% of gardeners freeze, just so know that you are not alone in this, all of us have seen unfold and more often than not we have been on the wrong side of things, hence the video. I cannot promise you if this video will make you an expert overnight, but I can assure you this your seedlings will not die if follow this guide from start to finish. When you look at this pot, you say why the seeds were put so close to each other, should they had been spaced better, things wouldn’t have been this crowded, well, if you say that you would be wrong. Seedlings need to be close to each other for 1015 days after germination to survive, a little competition right at the start goes a long way and this is how you should plant them in the future.

The right time to repot the seedlings, there is no right time collectively for all the seedlings, when you have sown the seeds, have a looksee after 7 days of germination, the ones with better growth, taller, thicker than others should be the priority, the rest can follow later in an exact same way. The biggest seedling here will stay in the same pot hence I am getting the secondbest lot out of here.

Any damage to the roots will be fatal so extra care is needed while pulling them out. If you are wondering what plant is this, this is one of Basil species, so our specimen for this video is one of the most delicate seedlings you would ever come across.

Next, press the roots with some wet cocopeat, for locking moisture for a couple of days as the seedlings take to a new surrounding. I know what you are thinking, why not simply put them in a new pot and water immediately, that’s something you can’t do to roots this small, before they can get to any water, they would dry up and die and no way you can do away with air pockets by pressing around this seedling, you will break it for sure, so this is how we do it

Let us lock the moisture for another 23 days with the help of porous toilet paper. Now when you will water, the water would go in but won’t escape, making sure the seedling stays hydrated for longer periods, establishing a better root system until the covers give way and roots come out into the soil to grow in a conventional manner

Here we have our temporary mini pots to be transferred to a permanent pot without worrying at all about the survival of these seedlings

Get your regular soil mix into the pot and plant these seedlings

Water immediately and be careful not to puncture the temporary covers

This is where we are at after 4 days, the seedlings look pretty solid

Another important step is to help the young plant branch out early and for that, we just clip off the top 23 pairs of leaves, right above one of the nodal areas

The plant is branching out well.

The seedlings in the pot too look awesome, the biggest of them, remember I cut it off into a cutting and will be raising another plant in water
