How pens were made in the past | The Pen Museum Birmingham | Hidden History Gems

Through Lucys Lens

In this weeks video I visited the Pen Museum in The Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham. A one of a kind place the museum celebrates the steel pen industry in Birmingham. At one time Birmingham produced 75% of the pens used in the world. In my hidden history gems series I visit little known museums around the United Kingdom to fuel my own love of social history and to show you around too.
The Birmingham Pen Museum is a hidden gem and I think a must visit for stationary lovers. I had never even thought about how pens were made before this visit.
The museum is small and entirely run by a group of passionate volunteers, some of whom are the leading experts on the pen industry in the UK.
There is a small entry fee, and included in your entry fee is the opportunity to make your own steel pen you can take home. This experience was a highlight to me. At the time of publication the entry fee to the museum is £7.95 (£6.95 concessions), the pen museum is currently open Thursday Sunday.
At the end of this visit I also visit a famous Birmingham cemetery featuring the most incredible Victorian Catacombs.

Thanks as always for watching, and for your support. I love making these videos for you to enjoy and you continue to inspire me not only to improve but to get out there and keep exploring. Thank you.
