The City of Des Moines has invested approximately $50 million in flood mitigation projects since the flooding experienced in 2018.

With rain falling here as well as the water making its way to us from northwest Iowa's recent storms, one component of our flood control system is proving its worth by making sure the rain entering our storm sewers makes it through to the river, even when water levels are high enough to cover the drainage pipe.
