In this talk, Dr. Teresa Lynn discusses the use of the Irish language on Twitter and the importance of social media for minority languages.

Dr. Teresa Lynn is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the ADAPT Centre, Dublin City University. She completed her PhD through a cotutelle agreement between Dublin City University (Ireland) and Macquarie University Sydney (Australia), investigating parsing of the Irish language. She built the first syntacticallyannotated corpus (treebank) for Irish and with that, trained the first statistical computational parsing models for Irish that can identify the syntax of Irish sentences. Teresa was a FulbrightEnterprise Ireland Awardee in 20142015 and spent time in St Louis University, Missouri working with Professor Kevin Scannell on the automated analysis of Irish tweets.
