When you think of the pinnacle of motorsport innovation, you probably think of Formula 1. But what if I told you that groups of students from all around the world design and build cars that, in some ways, are way more innovative than F1?

These studentbuilt cars might look like gokarts with wings, but they are fast and very advanced. Weighing only about 245 kilograms, they can pull two and a half G in the corners and are powered by four electric motors. One team even took their car to 60 miles per hour in less than a second.

So, I recently went to Oxford Brookes University to take a look at their Formula Student car. I wanted to understand why they look the way they do and what kind of crazy technology makes them so fast.
