It ended at around 4.40am when Prime Minister Rishi Sunak conceded defeat to Sir Keir Starmer.

In between, a slew of Conservative heavyweights such as Liz Truss and Sir Jacob ReesMogg found themselves out of a job as the political map of the UK changed from blue to red.
