How to apply for an Australian Police Check for immigration purposes?

You will need police clearance or police check to apply for many visas like partner visas, skilled 190 and 491 visas, sponsor visas, and graduate visa.
You will usually need one if you have spent more than 12 months in Australia.
There are many types of police checks, so make sure you apply for the right one.
The Australian Federal Police National Police Clearance is the right one. It costs $47 at the moment and can be paid by credit card.
Before you apply you need to prepare your documents. You must supply at least one primary document, such as a passport or Australian driver's license.
You can also add some other documents to complete the 100 points like a Credit card or account card, an Australian Marriage Certificate, a property lease agreement, a Bank statement, or utility bills.
Sometimes, you’ll need a fingerprint check as part of your National Police Clearance.
To apply for a police check, go to the Australian Federal Police, select “Get a police check” and follow the instructions on the screen to start a new application.
When you start a new online application, you need to select at least one primary document and some more primary or secondary documents until you have at least 100 points worth of documents.
Fill in your details such as names, date of birth, email.
In terms of names, it is important to include all names and previous names. If you do not do this, then the Department of home affairs could ask you to do another police clearance, which will slow down your visa and cost more.
For the purpose of the police check.
It's important to pay attention to filling in this part correctly. If your police check is for migration purposes, you should select “Commonwealth Employment/Purpose” under “Purpose type” and then, under the “Purpose of the check”, choose “33 Immigration/Citizenship for supply to the Department of Home Affairs.”
Check if your information is right then go to the next step which is to upload the identification documents you selected in Step 2. After you upload the documents, you can make the payment and wait for your Australian police check.
They will start processing your application straight away and send you a payment receipt via email. They will send a digital certificate by email when they have completed the check. You can also ask for a hard copy of your certificate to be posted to you.
