How to Attach Canvas Wedges and Transport Wet Canvases - plein air oil painting

In this short video I look at how to attach wooden canvas wedges (sometimes called canvas keys) into the back of your canvas. The idea is that the wedges go into the slots in the wooden frame at the back of the canvas. As they are pushed in further they tighten the canvas to the desired amount by pushing the frame outwards.

I was getting my painting equipment ready for the evening outing to Porthallow on the Cornwall coast and thought it would also be a good opportunity to show how I transport my wet canvases when I go plein air oil painting. For this I use wet canvas carrier clips. They are made of stainless steel, last for ages and very useful if you like painting on canvas en plein air. You can easily find them at Art stores and by searching online.

Please leave any questions in the comments section and I will do my best to help.

All the best Andrew
