1. Can you mount shelves on metal stud walls? Yes you can. Mounting shelves to metal stud walls require elephant anchors. Drilling a 1/2” hole and inserting an elephant anchor flange through the metal stud is able to hold heavy items on metal studs.

2. How do you anchor into metal studs?

Attach the mounting bracket to the wall using the elephant anchor toggle bolts. Slide the toggle bolt through the hole and pull securely to the metal stud. Screw each bolt so that it's snug, but not tight to the bracket. Once all the bolts are secure, check to make sure the bracket is level before tightening the bolts fully.

3. How much weight can you hang on metal studs.

The axial load, or load weight limit, for metal studs varies widely. An 8foot, 31/2inch metal stud, for instance, may support over 2,000 pounds, while a 16foot stud of the same width will support as little as 400 pounds. Please check with your builder.
We suggest not mounting more then 150 lbs on metal stud walls unless you have a professional opinion on the strength of the wall.
