I created this video to help other artists learn how to become a naturalist! While I've had lots of inspiration from many places and people to be a naturalistI have been most inspired by the book Writing Wild by Tina Welling. It's helped me become much more in tune with nature, make deeper observations about the world, and appreciate my surroundings more. The book is geared towards writers and getting outdoors to get into a writing flow. But over the years, I've adapted my own way of observing my natural surroundings as an artist through sketches and paintings.

So follow along with me as I explore the Washington Coast and make a nature study sketch. I'll show you my process and how I keep my art observations simple and easy to get started! There's a free PDF down below if you'd like to use a printable version. But you can also just grab a sketchbook, pencil, or any art supplies and head out into nature too.
