Applicants interested in a Notary Public career should first make sure they’re eligible for a commission.

The Secretary of State requires Notaries to be at least 18 years old, be a U.S. citizen, be a legal resident of Oklahoma or an outofstate resident who is employed within the state, and be able to read and write English. Those who have been convicted of a felony are disqualified from a commission.

The steps to become a Notary in Oklahoma are as follows:

1. Complete the Oklahoma Notary Public Application.
2. Submit your application and $25 fee to the Secretary of State.
3. Receive a package including your commission, the State’s Notary Public Guide and a blank bond form.
4. The issuing date on your commission form is the start date of your 60day window of time to finish the rest of the process to become an Oklahoma Notary.
5. Get your Notary seal and $1,000 surety bond.
6. Take your bond form and stamp to a current Oklahoma Notary.
7. Send the completed bond form and $10 filing fee to the Secretary of State.
8. Receive your commission approval notification from the State.
