Following EMR, the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification provides foundational skills for patient assessment and management in a variety of emergency situations. This is considered basic life support roles.

The Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) level expands upon the EMT's capabilities, incorporating more advanced airway devices, intravenous fluids, and some medications. The highest certification level, Paramedic, encompasses advanced medical procedures, pharmacology, and the use of complex equipment. These two roles would be considered advanced life support.
