How To Build a Dirt Box Forge

Follow
Northern Forge Blacksmith

In this video I go over the process of how to build a simple dirt box forge. This type of forge is perfect if you want to try blacksmithing, but don't want to spend a lot of money, since most of the materials needed for this can be obtained for free.

This is a common design for an inexpensive, beginner forge. I did not invent this idea, nor can I take any credit for its design. This is just my take on the idea that I wanted to share.

Materials Needed:
1 8 ft 2x6
A 2x8 or larger could also work here, you'll just need more dirt to fill the forge.
1 12ft 2x4
You may want more or less material depending on how tall you want the forge to be, but I found that 3 ft tall was a good height for me.
screws to assemble
screwdriver
1 1824inch pipe nipple for your air inlet. This can be longer or shorter, but you want it to be long enough to keep your blower from getting too hot, but too long will add more weight and make it more difficult to keep the end inside the forge from popping up.
1 blower
1 bucket of rocks
12 buckets of dirt
