In the first instalment of the scrappy build I will be going over how to take a stock front axle and turn it into a offroad more spec front swing beam. This is very key to have big flex in your mower! It’s important to think about strength when building, as these units take a beating and need to have strong front end components. The swing beam, spindle arms, tie rod and steering arm should all be reinforced and built strong, these key components being built right could save you many days of getting out to the trial and having something your could have fixed break! I like to reduce any slop in the steering I can thus having lathe down some washers to fit the spindles snug. It’s also important to brace the frame where the swing beam is being housed!
