There are obviously lots of different types of fence from larchlap panels to close board fence panel systems, but I decided upon a traditional closeboard fencing system complete with v notched posts, gravel boards and arris rails, because I wanted to build a strong system that would last a good 20 to 30 years, and which would span the 18metre gap and withstand the buffeting from the wind.

Also, with the fence sloping up on one side, I didn't want a stepped effect as you get with panel systems. So the traditional closeboard fence system was perfect for the job.

Constructed over 3 weekends, braving everything the weather could throw at me, including a bad bout of the flu, I eventually completed the fence last weekend, and I'm pretty pleased with the result.

My local timber company (not where I bought the main fence system from but a great source for everything else I needed) including the Sitemate decking screws. http://www.bromyardtimber.co.uk/odds....
