GCI (Green Chlorophyll Index) is used to estimate leaf chlorophyll content in plants based on nearinfrared and green bands. In general, the chlorophyll value directly reflects the vegetation. The GCI formula looks like GCI = NIR / Green – 1. The socalled green chlorophyll index’s main strength is that it can be successfully used for a wide range of plant species. GCI index is calculated as a ratio of the chlorophyll’s reflectance in the NIR band over the reflectance in the green band.
