How to Change the Distributor Assembly Unit in a 7.4L Mercruiser MPI

DIY We were going to change the distributor shaft because it is heavily corroded and needed to be replaced. But instead of just replacing the shaft, we are replacing the entire distributor assembly unit.
Step 1: Remove the old cap which is just two screws on either side, and they're not always the easiest to access.
Step 2: Transfer the ignition wires one at a time to the new cap, which ensure the wires are in the same spot, as they have to be in a specific order.
Step 3: Then unclip and slide the two shoes of wires out and move that out of the way.
Step 4: Before loosening the assembly, use a straight edge of some sort and mark the position where it lines up. You'll need to replicate that location when the new one goes in.
Step 5: Then loosen the bolt holding the clamp that secures the assembly. A distributor wrench will make this step easier.
Step 6: When it's off, carefully slide the old unit out noting the slight turn of the cap, factor in that the gear wraps around the shaft.
Step 7: Put on a small gasket to form a secure seal.
Step 8: Slide the new unit in carefully, turn the cap counter clockwise slightly, then when it slides in, it should be lined up with your mark. You can turn the cap and feel for grooves and slide it in gently, if it's not lined up just right, it won't be completely down and you'll know it's not in right.
Step 9: Once it's in right, slide the clamp back on and tighten the bolt, reconnect the wires making sure the clips are secure.
Step 10: Replace the cap and secure the two screws.
