How to choose the right drainage channel for your project

Follow
Drainfast Ltd

When purchasing channel drains it’s important to choose the appropriate load class based on where it is to be used and the type of traffic it will be exposed to. There are six BS EN 124:2015 categories from A15 – the least demanding – to F900 – the most demanding. In case of doubt between two levels, the higher one should be chosen.

The types of drainage channels we offer are:

A15 Areas that can only be used by pedestrians and pedal cycles.
B125 Footways, pedestrian areas, and comparable areas where occasional vehicle access is likely. Such as domestic driveways and private car parks.
C250 Kerbsides and nontrafficked areas of hard shoulders, car parks, forecourts, industrial sites, and similar.
D400 Road carriageways, hard shoulders, and parking areas for all types of road vehicles.
E600 For areas subjected to high wheel loads such as industrial estates, loading areas, ports, and dockyards.
F900 Areas subjected to particularly high wheel loads such as aircraft pavement.

Grating comes in a range of designs and materials. You can choose to use it discretely or as a design statement. You should always match the load class rating of the grating to the channel it sits on or choose a higherrated grating than the channel to achieve the required overall load class.

The types of grating we offer are:

Slotted Parallel slots are designed for rapid drainage of water into the channel. A good allpurpose option.

Heelproof Slotted – Narrow parallel slots are designed to be too small for most stiletto heels to penetrate. Can be a good option for use in areas with a high concentration of pedestrians.

Heelproof Mesh – The crisscross pattern allows water to penetrate but is small enough to prevent most stiletto heels from penetrating the gaps. Can be a good option for use in areas with a high concentration of pedestrians.
