Do you have leaking alkaline batteries? The best way to clean corrosion from alkaline battery terminals. In this video I demonstrate stepbystep, how to clean out a battery compartment.

Cleaning corrosion from alkaline batteries using vinegar and cotton swabs can effectively remove the corrosion and restore the battery terminals to proper functioning.

Materials Needed:
Distilled white vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
Cotton swabs (Qtips)
Disposable gloves (optional, for protection)
Safety glasses (optional, for eye protection)

Step by step Instructions
Safety Precautions:
Wear disposable gloves and safety glasses if you prefer to protect your hands and eyes from any potential contact with vinegar or battery corrosion.

Prepare the Work Area:
Work on a clean, dry surface with good lighting. Lay down a paper towel or disposable cloth to catch any spills.

Remove Batteries:
If possible, remove the batteries from the device to avoid any accidental damage to electronics. This also makes it easier to clean the terminals thoroughly.

Inspect for Corrosion:
Check the battery terminals for signs of corrosion. Corrosion typically appears as a white or bluishgreen crust on the metal terminals.

Apply Vinegar:
Dip a cotton swab into the vinegar. You can also pour a small amount of vinegar into a container and dip the cotton swab into it.

Clean the Terminals:
Gently rub the corroded terminals with the vinegarsoaked cotton swab. The acidity of the vinegar will help dissolve and neutralize the corrosion.

Repeat if Necessary:
Depending on the severity of the corrosion, you may need to use multiple swabs dipped in vinegar to thoroughly clean the terminals. Replace the swab as it becomes dirty to avoid spreading corrosion.

Dry and Inspect:
Once you have cleaned off the corrosion, use a dry cotton swab or cloth to wipe away any remaining vinegar and residue from the terminals.

Reinstall new batteries

Additional Tips:
Prevent Future Corrosion: Consider using rechargeable batteries or storing alkaline batteries separately to minimize the chances of corrosion.

Regular Maintenance:
Periodically check and clean battery terminals to prevent buildup of corrosion.

Alternative Cleaning Methods:
If vinegar is not available, lemon juice can also be effective in cleaning battery corrosion.

1⃣ Safety first, wear gloves and other safety gear.

2⃣ Remove batteries.

3⃣ Clean with vinegar.

4⃣ Neutralize with baking soda.

5⃣ Reinstall batteries.
