How to Convert Open Drive Ford Banjo Axle to Transverse Leaf Spring

Follow
AJ STARCH

Hey there YouTube, AJ here!
Here in chapter 5 of my 1927 Ford T Touring hot rod build, I start converting my 1946 Ford truck open drive banjo rearend/axle from parallel leaf springs to a transverse leaf spring. First things first I need perches to mount the springs...

I could just buy a bolt on kit but my goal is to use as much vintage steel and parts in this build as possible! To that effect, I grab an old set of Model A axle tubes and start cutting!

Before I can mock up the axle I need to source up some longer bolts to tie the backing plates, shock mounts, spring perches and rear radius rods altogether but before that, next up, how to reverse eye Model A springs!

After some MAJOR life changes I'm finally working on my hot rod!
And yes, I mean hot rod. Not a street rod, not a rat rod. HOT ROD!
I'll be building this as a traditional build but not to a single time period. I'm building a car that would have been constantly modified from the 40's in to the 60's. My goal is to use all parts from before 1966 (the year I was born).
