I season to taste with:

Better than Boullion Chicken Base
Pepper
Bacon Grease
Little bit of butter
Cajun seasoning
cayenne

I tend to get all the salt I need from the boullion base.

For the dish itself:

Cabbage
Gold Potatoes
Onion
Fresh Garlic
Smoked Sausages

Also, I rinse my cabbage. Then I fill my pot about halfway with water.
