ChemSimplified

In this video, we are going to see how to draw dot and cross diagrams for covalent bonding. Specifically, we are going to draw dot and cross diagrams for H2O, NH3, CH4 and CO2. The dot cross diagram for water (H2O), ammonia (NH3) and methane (CH4) all contain single bonds. On the other hand, the dot cross diagram for carbon dioxide (CO2) contains double bonds. We will go through step by step how to draw dot and cross diagrams by first identifying the number of valence electrons each atom has and the number of valence electrons each atom needs in order to achieve octet.

Here's when you'll find:
0:14 H2O dot and cross diagram
1:18 NH3 dot and cross diagram
2:00 CH4 dot and cross diagram
2:43 CO2 dot and cross diagram
