Crayola Marker or Pencil
Paper (printer or drawing paper)
Steps
1. Draw 6 square on your paper
2. Fill in the 1st square with short lines (Hatching)
3. Fill in the second square with lines that cross over each other (Cross Hatching)
4. Fill in the third square with curved lines (Scumble)
5. Fill in the fourth square with dots (Stipple)
6. Fill In the fifth with long lines and make some thicker and closer together to create shadows
7. Fill in the sixth with scales
Adaptions
Smaller boxes are easier to fill, especially with stipple. You can also use markers for stipple so it
doesn’t take as long to fill the box.
Extensions
Draw a small 2X3 inch portrait with tracing paper over the image and stipple using a micron
pen. (see Wall Street Journal Head cuts)
Draw your favorite stuffed animal using hatching
