Dawn dish soap is a wellknown brand that’s probably sitting in your kitchen, but have you ever wondered if Dawn is helpful in getting rid of pests.
Many common pests die when they come into direct contact with Dawn dish soap that’s been diluted in water.
The soapy water is thought to wash away a bug’s protective coating, so the pest dries out and dies.
There are many ways to use dawn dish soap depending on what you are trying to get rid of, and generally it’s a better alternative to commercial insecticidal products.
Lets take a look at the best ways to use it against pests.
1, Ants.
If you have ants or other bugs around the house, pour a 50 50 mixture of Dawn dish soap and water into an empty spray bottle and when you see the insects, spray them with the mixture.
Provided you really saturate those little critters, the soap actually breaks down their exoskeletons, and they die almost immediately.
2, Flies. Take a jar and fill it half or a third full of apple cider vinegar.
Next, gently mix in a few squirts dish soap, maybe a teaspoon amount, so there are no bubbles.
Then, leave it on your counter overnight near where you see them.
In the morning there will be drowned fruit flies in the bottom of it.
If the first night doesn’t catch them, make a fresh batch the next day to catch the stragglers.
How this works is the apple cider vinegar smells like rotten fruit to the fruit flies and attracts them.
The liquid dish soap breaks the surface of the vinegar and sucks them in when they try to land, which drowns them.
3, Moles. dawn dish soap can be used to get rid of ground moles.
Start by mixing about 4 ounces of castor oil with a teaspoon of the dishwashing liquid.
Put this into a common garden spray bottle and add water until you have completely filled the bottle.
It should be warm or hot water to make sure that the mixture mixes well, and you should shake vigorously after you have combined the blend.
Now, all you need to do is go around your yard spraying the mixture of oil and soap.
You don't need to be excessive about it but you should make sure that you have liberally used it across the yard.
This will help to make sure that it stays on your grass or other plants for quite some time.
Your next step is to go and fill all the visible holes that you have seen where the moles could be gaining access and pat down securely.
