The Consumer Protection Act, 2019 is an important legislation in India that aims to protect and promote the rights of consumers. It was enacted by the Indian Parliament in August 2019, and replaced the old Consumer Protection Act, 1986.

The new Act provides for the establishment of a Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), which is empowered to investigate and prosecute cases of unfair trade practices and misleading advertisements. The Act also provides for the establishment of statelevel and districtlevel Consumer Dispute Redressal Commissions, which are responsible for resolving consumer complaints.

The Act defines a consumer as any person who buys goods or avails of services for personal use or for the use of their family members, excluding goods bought for resale or commercial purposes. It lays down several important consumer rights, such as the right to be informed, the right to be heard, the right to seek redressal, and the right to consumer education.

One of the most significant features of the new Act is the provision for product liability, which makes manufacturers, sellers, and service providers liable for any harm caused to consumers due to defective products or deficient services. The Act also provides for strict penalties and fines for violations of consumer rights and unfair trade practices.

Overall, the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 seeks to provide a more comprehensive and effective legal framework for consumer protection in India. Consumers can easily file their consumer complaints.
