A: In order to get a Statement InLieu of Certificate of NonImpediment to Marriage Abroad you need to submit a request either by mail or in person. Your request has to include your certified birth certificate if you're born in Canada, or the certified true copies of both your Record of Landing and Canadian citizenship card in the case you were not born in Canada. You also have to make a statutory declaration of your present marital status before a Notary or Commissioner of Oaths. The name and citizenship of your future spouse should be reflected upon in the declaration. If you were married before, you'll need to include any certified documents that prove you either got a divorce or your spouse died.
