Family relationships can be very complicated.

There isn't always a clear understanding as to why certain things may happen in your family.

There may also be traumatic experiences throughout the generations of your family that makes things complicated and pervasive (or chronic).

For example, traumatic bonding or substance abuse can become generational challenges that threatens the stability of family relationships for generations.

It wasn't until I became a student in psychology and law, and then went to graduate school that I began to challenge the concept of family relationships.

Now as a seasoned psychotherapist of 14 years, I recognize that most of what we, as a society, have been taught about family relationships is FALSE.
