How to Get FMLA for Anxiety Depression or other Mental Health Issues (4 Easy Steps!)

Follow
Tyler Ellis

Sometimes we just need a little time off work to take care of our mental health. FMLA (the Family and Medical Leave Act) is a U.S. law that enables us to take some time away from work while managing a serious health condition, or mental health condition, OR for military family leave or new child care/bonding. This leave may be taken to treat our own conditions OR to help a family member with theirs. While taking FMLA leave, your job is protected and any existing health insurance is maintained.

After going through this process myself, I decided to make this video to break the process down as SIMPLY AS POSSIBLE. Breaking it down into 4 major steps, we discuss:
1. Determining FMLA eligibility
2. Identifying your FMLA qualifying condition
3. Requesting FMLA leave from your employer
4. Obtaining Medical Certification for FMLA leave

I also briefly cover the basics of FMLA leave, as well as explaining the difference between disability vs FMLA.

While I am not a lawyer and this does not constitute legal advice, I sincerely hope this can be helpful to someone who needs a mental health break and doesn't want to lose their job while seeking treatment.
