Sheep and goats are considered the most natural animals because they can survive in any weather. It plays a vital role in the livelihood of landless, small and marginal farmers.

In semiarid conditions, goats are considered more economical than freerange sheep. They can survive in drought areas, have low investment, space, and maintenance, and can be cultivated. They can be kept with other livestock in smallscale establishments and are suitable for mixed farming. Besides green fodder, sheep should be given feed like sorghum, maise, broken rice, soya bean cake, and groundnut meal per its requirements. Fresh water should also be provided in proper quantity.

Sheep and goat farming generates a lot of employment and income in exports and imports. The essential products from sheep and goats are wool, meat and milk. Also, their skin and dairy are highly traded worldwide. Meat is a delicacy enjoyed by many people around the world. Cross breeders get meat in less time. Goat meat is lean and has low cholesterol content. Goat milk is rich in vitamins and minerals and has antifungal and antibacterial properties. Hence it is medically recommended for infants and the elderly. Due to its health benefits over cow's milk, goat's milk has recently gained more importance in the market.

Also, money can be earned by selling their manure, which is rich in nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Their waste acts as a natural compost, which increases soil density and ensures healthy crop growth and productivity.
