The reality is ANYONE can be locked up against their will in a psych ward. If you are believed to have a mental illness, and b/c of that illness, you are a danger to others, a danger to yourself, or gravely disabled (unable to take care of your basic everyday needs), you are eligible for admission to a psych ward.
